Second Fayetteville Distance Runner Signs For 2026
Jonathan Mbugua joins Collins Ndungu as Fayetteville HS grads running distance events for NWACC next season
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Jonathan Mbugua is the latest signee for NWACC Men's Track and Field and Cross Country coaches Josphat Boit and Chris Weller, as announced Thursday.
"I'm a hard worker," Mbugua said. "I really push myself to the limit and I really want to be great."
Mbugua is the second in three days to be announced as a member of the Class of 2026 in those two programs for NWACC out of Fayetteville High School. Mbugua set a personal best of 16:26.8 at the 2025 Arkansas State Cross Country Championships last season.
"I'm excited for the future and what it holds for me," Mbugua said. "I know [Coach Boit and Coach Weller] both are good coaches, and [NWACC] is close to home, so I think I could thrive here."
NWACC finishes its 2026 track and field season May 8 at Arkansas Twilight in Fayetteville, followed by the 2026 NJCAA Division I Championships in Hobbs, N.M. the following week.
